About the Author:

Jill Furmanovsky has photographed some of the greatest musicians in the world, including the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Oasis. She made her name as the official photographer of the band during the recording of The Dark Side Of The Moon and during the UK album tour. Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell co-founded the design agency Hipgnosis with Storm Thorgerson in 1968, creating over the next 15 years some of the most iconic record covers for artists such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney and Genesis. Powell is currently art director for Pink Floyd, responsible for designing and curating the record-breaking exhibition ‘Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains’, which premiered for five months in 2017 at the V&A in London.

The first exploration of Piranesi’s work as a draughtsman, published to coincide with an exhibition at the British Museum

The Venetian-born artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778) is best known for his dramatic etchings of the architecture and antiquities of his adopted city, Rome, and for his extraordinary flights of spatial fancy, such as Le Carceri (‘Prisons’).

Published to coincide with an exhibition at the British Museum, this original volume explores Piranesi’s skill as a draughtsman. While many studies focus on Piranesi’s activities as a printmaker, this beautifully illustrated book examines the many unanswered questions about his drawings. It establishes a clear relationship between his drawings and his prints, discuss the involvement of studio hands in his late works, and examine how his style as a draughtsman evolved. Piranesi Drawings reveals the quality and impact of the pen and chalk studies of a remarkably talented artist, as shown by the British Museum’s superb collection.

Sarah Vowles is Hamish Swanston Curator of Italian and French Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. Hugo Chapman is Simon Sainsbury Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.

About the Author:

Rankin is a photographer living and working in London. He has worked in television as either cinematographer, director, producer, or presenter for Dazed TV, the BBC, and his own Hunger TV. He is the author of Unfashionable, also published by Rizzoli.

About the Authors:

Murray Moss is the legendary founder of MOSS. He is the recipient of the 2002 Chrysler Design Award and Russel Wright Award. In 2007, he was elected to Interior Design magazine’s Hall of Fame. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Yale School of Architecture, Aspen Institute, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and the TED conference. Franklin Getchell is Murray Moss’s life partner and was the managing partner of MOSS. He was an award-winning producer and executive for the Children’s Television Network before joining MOSS.

The rebel hero of Abstract Expressionism, Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) careened through his life like a firework across the American art landscape. Pollock’s most famous works are his drip paintings, where he dripped and poured household enamel paint over the canvas with a variety of instruments, from sticks to syringes, hardened brushes to broken bits of glass. Less a distinct style than the concrete expression of being in a particular era, Pop Art began as a revolt against mainstream approaches to art and culture and evolved into a wholesale interrogation of modern society, consumer culture, and the role of the artist and artwork.

The movement’s primary provocation was to defy ideas of the artistic canon or “originality” by integrating mass market imagery into their works.
