A sequel to the extremely popular I Adulted: Stickers for Grown-Ups, I Adulted at Work! is a whimsically illustrated book containing 250 removable stickers that congratulate supposed grown-ups on a job well done . . . or at least a job done.

Despite official reports, most adults feel completely and totally ill-prepared to deal. With anything. They still, as purportedly self-sufficient grown-ups, look toward older generations and think, "How did they do that?" So the easiest and best way to find comfort is to look not ahead at uncertainty (or, heaven forbid, around at the chaos currently surrounding them), but to the past to their simpler childhoods. And it is with brightly colored stickers in the workplace that they will finally find peace of mind. For a little while, at least.
Filled with 250 full-color removable stickers that can be used to decorate journals, notebooks, or your lapel to proudly and publicly proclaim work life's little victories, I Adulted at Work! is the ideal nostalgic and practical book for anyone who feels a sense of accomplishment by making it through a day on the job without calling their mother for help.

About the Author:

Robb Pearlman is an editor, author, and pop culture junkie. He is the author of more than thirty books for adults and kids, including I Adulted! What Would Skeletor Do?, and The Wit and Wisdom of Star Trek.

IDEAT celebrates its 20th anniversary: 360-degree creativity

In the landscape of design and décor, IDEAT, founded by Laurent and Anne-France Blanc in 1999, has always been seen as an exception. The magazine occupies a unique place among publications, covering decoration, travel, design, architecture, photography, and contemporary art. Interdisciplinary breadth is at the heart of its editorial approach. Modernity is its doctrine.

From interviews with the greatest architects or designers of the moment to a report by a buzzy interior designer, from the 40 top addresses in the metropolis of the moment to retail recommendations that seamlessly merge furniture and fashion, 20th-century design and the latest high-tech know-how, IDEAT never fails to arouse curiosity, nourish the imagination, and enrich the cultural knowledge of professionals and the public at large. Trends — but not just the hip ones, décor that surpassed the conventionally feminine, an eye for the latest fashion that still kept things classic and chic: IDEAT succeeded in such a diverse space by proposing specialized information with a warm and familiar tone.

Design, international architecture, interior design, fashion, shopping, city breaks: IDEAT brings its readers close to its cultural sources and inspires their curiosity and creativity alike. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, IDEAT presents this book edition of its May anniversary issue. The publication features all of the magazine’s regular columns alongside never-before-published décor reports, city guides one step ahead of the game, and a throwback to some of most beautiful icons of design history.

A magnificent portfolio — as diverse and vibrant as IDEAT always is, furiously contemporary and absolutely indispensable!

Cutting-edge examples of the use of optical illusion in design — from trompe l’oeil to anamorphosis — to solve various challenges, be they space or budget-related, or that act as aesthetic features in architecture and the fields that rub elbows with it: art, design, and furniture.

This magical volume presents the startling world of illusion in design as employed by today’s architects, interior designers, furniture designers, and others at work bending the appearance of reality for purposes of aesthetics or practicality or fun. From a faux bookcase that masks a room or Prohibition-style bar, to the mind-boggling Escher-like effects achieved by Casa Ceramica, whose optical illusion of a floor dips into valleys and rises into mounds (but is in reality flat), the book is a revelation and an inspiration. It offers to us the possibility that nearly anything can be done, if it can be imagined — even in our own homes.

The authors look at residences across the globe, as well as spaces beyond the home, that utilize a myriad of surprising techniques.

Included are projects by conceptual designers such as Studio Malka and Vector Architects, as well as established practitioners such as Ferguson and Shamamian, G. P. Schafer, Peter Pennoyer, Redd/Kaihoi, and others, and all will surprise and engage the inspired viewer who will see that nearly anything can be done, if it can be imagined.

Exploring the art, architecture, and design of memorials around the world from the late twentieth century to today

An extraordinary book that explores the art, architecture, and design of memorials around the world from the late twentieth century to today – an important book for our time

Memorials hold a special position in the cultural memory of communities, and collective consciousness of communities, cities, and countries. In Memory Of presents an extraordinary and moving collection of more than 60 exceptional structures commemorating some of the most destructive events of the 20th and 21st centuries, including war, genocide, terrorism, famine, and slavery from around the world.

This important book highlights memorials built since 1982, featuring works from Berlin to Washington, D.C., from Montgomery, Alabama to Santiago, Chile, each urging us never to forget.

In Memory Of features memorials designed by some of today's leading architects, including David Adjaye, Tadao Ando, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Peter Eisenman, Daniel Libeskind, Maya Lin, Snøhetta, and Peter Zumthor. It also features memorials designed by artists like Elmgreen & Dragset, Isamu Noguchi, Taryn Simon, and Rachel Whiteread. The book includes well-known structures like Maya Lin's iconic Vietnam War Memorial, completed in 1982 in Washington, D.C. and more recent ones like the poignant National Memorial for Peace and Justice, completed by MASS Design Group in Montgomery, Alabama in 2018.

With thoughtful essays on the subjects of hope, strength, grief, loss, and fear, and a moving foreword by Sir David Adjaye, In Memory Of helps to contextualize the projects and addresses the emotional aspects of memorialization. Beautifully designed with a minimal, reflective cover, and illustrated with 200 photographs, this book calls out to be experienced, felt, looked at, interpreted, and read in a variety of ways.

Contemporary Residential Architecture and Interiors Photographed by James Silverman

Endless expanses. Interior design, architecture, and spectacular views of sweeping landscapes. Infinite Space showcases James Silverman’s masterful photography of stunning houses.

This book is a dazzling compilation of dream houses with a view, photographed by James Silverman on his travels. Whether of a remote mountain cabin in Norway, a sensuous desert oasis in Morocco, or a monolithic concrete home in Switzerland, Silverman’s photographs capture the seemingly uninterrupted flow between interiors and exteriors. The featured architecture is defined by elements that absorb, reflect, or deliberately break with their surroundings.

Silverman’s images play with perspective and sightlines. They underline the harmony of perfectly composed juxtapositions of built structures and natural landscapes. Collected here, they also show how “infinite space” has established itself as a key precept of contemporary architecture around the world.

About the Author:

James Silverman is one of the foremost photographers of architecture and interiors in the world today. A Briton who resides in Sweden travelling the world for his projects. Images by Silverman appear regularly in magazines such as Architectural Digest, Interior Design, and Dwell.

This exquisite book showcases the stunning properties of the world's leading design connoisseurs, including Jasper Conran, Lynn Guinness, Vanessa Branson, and Helen and Brice Marden, who have transformed Marrakesh's exotic style into unexpected but elegant expressions. We are invited into such lush private places as the gardens of the Villa Oasis, designed by Madison Cox, and the Bulgaris' tranquil riad. Full of personal insights, Loum-Martin explores how international design-savvy individuals continue to incorporate such exuberant designs in their work.

Radical. Visionary. Poetic. Inside Utopia shows the future of living that architects and designers have envisioned.

Spectacular and reflective, unpretentious and efficient: the breathtaking Elrod House by John Lautner; the Lagerfeld Apartment near Cannes that seems like a set from a science fiction film; Palais Bulles in France with its organic and unique architecture. These interiors welcome habitation and spark curiosity while embodying the foundations of minimalism and bygone visions of the future. Inside Utopia delves into the rhyme and reason behind past designs that we still interact with today.

The architects, the owners, and the craftsmen like Gio Ponti or Bruce Goff who work behind the scenes created amorphous interiors that invite the mind to wander. At the time they were futuristic, confident, utopian, idealistic — we may not realize it, but they have shaped our current living concepts, and even now, they inspire us anew. Previously it has been difficult to attain access to these preserved interiors, but Inside Utopia unearths what was before unseen.

Current modes of residential design are facing challenges of both philosophy and form. Approaches that have prevailed in past decades no longer sustain new demands and require innovative rethinking. The need for a new outlook is propelled by fundamental changes to the environment, economy and society.

Design for passive solar gain, solar-powered homes, minimising a dwelling's physical footprint, Net-Zero residences and preserving a site's natural assets are some of the strategies that the architects and builders featured in this book are integrating into their thought processes and design practices.

An important book written by a world expert in the field, Inspired Homes offers information on contemporary sustainable design concepts and illustrates them with examples of truly outstanding design.

About the Author:

Avi Friedman is a professor of architecture at McGill University, Canada, an honorary professor at Lancaster University, UK, and president of Avi Friedman Consultants, Inc., a design firm with a focus on affordable and sustainable residential environments. He has written fourteen books and his design work and projects have been cited in magazines, newspapers and TV shows, including Good Morning America, Dream Builders and Stewart Brand’s How Buildings Learn. In 2000, Wallpaper* included him in their list of ten people ‘most likely to change the way we live’.

Seeking the perfect escape from city life and congestion? This book is filled with environmentally low-impact homes and retreats using eco-friendly materials and technology that reduce the carbon footprint and lower its energy needs, all built within the past ten years. The influential rooms of Elkins, Taylor, Dickinson, and other great talents — as photographed by Fred Lyon — represent the innovation and splendor of postwar Northern California interiors, which continue to inspire the work of designers today.

From the 1940s to the 1980s, some of the best residences in Northern California were decorated by a coterie of designers whose names were once recognized only by the cognoscenti of interior design. From Frances Elkins and Tony Hail, with their aristocratic aesthetics, to Michael Taylor and John Dickinson, with their bold fantasies, these designers created revolutionary settings that were idiomatic of their time and place — fresh, luxurious spaces complementing the various terrains and lifestyles of the northern part of the state.

Fred Lyon (b. 1924) is perhaps the only photographer who knew and documented the work of this talented group. Akin to what Julius Shulman was doing in Southern California, Lyon worked closely with the designers and magazine editors to help shape the look for posterity. In the years following the work of these giants, most of the spaces they created are gone or vastly changed, replaced by different tastes and new styles. Now re-appreciated for their artistry, we can relive this exciting era through Lyon’s superb photography.

About the Authors:
