Founded in 2005, adamo-faiden reformulated their role as architects in the new Argentinian social context upon their return to Argentina after the crisis.

Among their first projects were residential and office buildings, others were added to this tried-and-true typology that have consolidated adamo-faiden as one of the reference studios in the Southern Cone. This issue includes their recent work, from single family houses to commercial buildings.

adamo-faiden - an architecture studio established in Buenos Aires in 2005 by Sebastián Adamo an Marcelo Faiden.

Houses were Frank Lloyd Wright’s favourite building type from the beginning to the end of his seventy-year career as an architect. To him the house was the centre of family life, symbolized by a warming hearth, and above all a place of repose. As 50 Favourite Houses by Frank Lloyd Wright shows, his ideal home took on an amazing variety of forms.

Here, from the architect’s first period, is his own home and studio in Oak Park, Illinois, an architectural laboratory for him over two decades. His 1920s California works, built of textured concrete blocks, were revolutionary, his 1930s houses, Fallingwater and Taliesin West, internationally renowned. From then until his death in 1959, Wright took on the designed simplified residences, such as the honeycomb-shaped Hanna House, that helped change the look of the modern home.

Each of the examples shown exemplifies Wright’s never-changing principles that a house should be built with nature, achieve harmony through unity and be a work of art — not just a house.

This volume is dedicated to the 565 Broome Street skyscraper, the first residential building conceived by Renzo Piano and designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in the city of New York. Developed by Bizzi & Partners, the double tower occupies a corner space in the SoHo district, close to the Hudson River.

Rich and fascinating iconography and a text by Federico Bucci and Carol Willis describe the design, the main features of the building, and how it relates to the city and the light that surrounds it in a unique way.

The photographic selection is divided into thematic chapters, starting from the representation of the building’s urban context and then illustrating the different parts of the project, the formal and structural characteristics of the towers, and the interiors. It also describes the contemporary artwork by Susumu Shingu that occupies the space between the towers.

About the Authors:

Federico Bucci is Full Professor of History of Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan, where he is also Delegate of the Rector for Cultural Policies, Rector of the Mantua Pole, and head of the UNESCO Chair. Carol Willis is the founder, director, and curator of the Skyscraper Museum. She is also adjunct associate professor of Urban Studies at Columbia University.

Up-and-coming interior designer Kirsten Blazek, known for her focus on sustainability and mixing vintage with contemporary pieces, shares inspiration for creating an authentic and livable home.

Blazek’s company, A 1000 X Better, takes a holistic approach to design, prioritizing individuality while also emphasizing sustainability, from repurposing existing pieces and materials to sourcing eco-friendly products.
