Про автора:

A celebration of the opening of the new Museum of Fine Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland, exploring the creation of one of Europe's foremost art centers.

October 2019 marks a milestone for the Museum of Fine Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland, with its long-awaited reopening in a new site: a striking contemporary building from the award-winning Italian and Catalan architects Barozzi Veiga. An art center within the heart of one of Switzerland's most beautiful cities, this space will house the museum's prestigious collection of over 11,000 works, from eighteenth-century pieces to contemporary art.

Edited and authored by the well-known architecture expert Philip Jodidio, this book is dedicated to the ambitious project of rehousing a collection that was begun in 1841. With 150 photographs and drawings that illuminate an enormous undertaking, this volume provides a detailed insight into the different phases of design and construction, and the creation of an art complex that will later include museums of photography and design created by the Portuguese architects Aires Mateus.

Philip Jodidio is a specialist in modern architecture. As well as having held the post of editor-in-chief of the art magazine Connaissance des Arts for over twenty years, he is the author of over one hundred books on architecture and contemporary art.

A unique and compelling view of the work of leading contemporary artist Nalini Malani through the lens of her most recent commission

This publication presents the latest work of Nalini Malani (b. 1946), recipient of the 2022 National Gallery Contemporary Fellowship with ArtFund. 

For over five decades, Malani’s art has focused on giving a voice to the stories of those marginalized by history⁠— particularly women. She is one of the most incisive artists of our time, and the acute analysis and poetic compassion of her experimental film, photography, painting, and drawing has influenced generations of others from the 1960s to the present day.  

For her first museum commission in the United Kingdom, Malani has created an immersive installation of large-scale, animated drawings inspired by the sites, histories, and collections of the National Gallery, London, and the Holburne Museum, Bath. With a floating palimpsest of digital images, Malani reveals, annotates, and shares new, underlying stories in some of Europe’s best-known paintings, offering a contemporary and critical dialogue between past and present.

Surveying the work of video art pioneer Nam June Paik, this volume highlights the artist's radical engagement with process.

Nam June Paik (1932–2006) broke new ground in late twentieth-century art, working on a global stage to transform video into an art medium. This book reflects on Paik’s working method as well as the ideas and materials that inspired his art practice. It was published on the occasion of a two-part exhibition at Gagosian, New York, curated by John G. Hanhardt, one of the foremost scholars of Paik’s work. Nam June Paik: Art in Process highlights the centrality of process and exploration across Paik’s career — through his pioneering manipulated televisions from the early 1960s to live global satellite telecasts, large-scale video sculptures, drawings, and the late-style painted TVs — and provides an opportunity to follow Paik’s lifelong engagement with new media and the development of his own singular visual language. Highlights include Paik’s painted sections of the Berlin Wall (2005); Beuys Projection (1990), Paik’s powerful video interpretation of his performance with Joseph Beuys in Tokyo; and his celebrated One Candle, Candle Projection (1988–2000), a live video installation of candlelight.

With essays by John G. Hanhardt and Gregory Zinman, the book features extensive illustrations including numerous full-page plates and details, a foldout of the score for Paik’s Symphony for 20 Rooms (1961), as well as rarely seen archival photographs by Peter Moore (1932–1993) documenting Paik’s early performances.

Guggenheim Museum, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. Gregory Zinman is Associate Professor of Film and Media in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
