This truly global and visually stunning compendium showcases some of the most breathtaking pieces of street art and graffiti from around the world.

Since its genesis on the East Coast of the United States in the late 1960s, street art has travelled to nearly every corner of the globe, morphing into highly ornate and vibrant new styles.

This unique atlas is the first truly geographical survey of urban art, revised and updated in 2023 to include new voices, increased female representation and cities emerging as street art hubs.

Featuring specially commissioned works from major graffiti and street art practitioners, it offers you an insider’s view of the urban landscape as the artists themselves experience it.

Organized geographically, by continent and by city – from New York, Los Angeles and Montreal in North America, through Mexico City and Buenos Aires in Latin America, to London, Berlin and Madrid in Europe, Sydney and Auckland in the Pacific, as well as brand new chapters covering Africa and Asia – it profiles more than 100 of today’s most important artists and features over 700 astonishing artworks.

This beautifully illustrated book, produced with the help of many of the artists it features, dispels the idea of such art as a thoughtless defacement of pristine surfaces, and instead celebrates it as a contemporary and highly creative inscription upon the skin of the built environment.

About the Authors:

Dr Rafael Schacter is an anthropologist and curator from London. He co-curated the ‘Street Art’ exhibition at Tate Modern, London, in 2008. He has written for a variety of publications and has lectured on Independent Public Art around the world. His ethnography, Ornament and Order, is based on an ongoing engagement as well as more than two years’ in-depth fieldwork with some of the world’s most important Independent Public Artists.

Working across art-making and academia over three decades, Lachlan MacDowall is a scholar of graffiti, street art and digital culture, best known for pioneering research methods that mix genres, images and data. As a writer and photographer, he has pioneered new methods to register the complexity of graffiti and street art, including its rise as cultural heritage, challenges to documentation and photographic practices, the uses of bio-social paradigms, the analysis of data-rich environments and its connection to white supremacism and the alt-right.    He has published widely on the history and aesthetics of graffiti and street art, including in his most recent books Instafame: Graffiti and Street Art in the Instagram Era (2019) published by Intellect Books and the University of Chicago Press and (with Kylie Budge) Art After Instagram: Art Spaces, Audiences, Aesthetics (2022) published by Routledge. His work has been translated into French and Italian.   He is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the MIECAT Institute in Melbourne, Australia and a Senior Research Fellow (Hon) in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne.

Author André Saraiva, Contributions by Virgil Abloh and Magda Danysz and Jeffrey Deitch and Glenn O'Brien
ID: 15632
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The first and much-anticipated book by visual artist, club creator, and nightlife impresario André Saraiva presents his wide range of works, from street art and contemporary art to graphic design, photography, and his influences on fashion and nightlife.

Street-cool visual artist-cum-nightlife guru, André Saraiva, whose life dovetails into graffiti subculture, chic jet-setting, and the fashion world, presents an autobiographical visual diary of sorts, a revealing window into the worlds he inhabits. This visual journey is an interactive and striking object itself, with either a vibrant pink cloth- or blue cloth-cover (randomly selected), Saraiva’s distinctive handwriting in foil, and seven pop-ups he designed.

Chances are that while you’ve been strolling through the streets of Paris, London, New York, or Los Angeles, you may have caught a glimpse of Saraiva’s signature graffiti of Mr. A on a random street wall. Or you may have seen him in the Banksy film, Exit Through the Gift Shop; spied him in the front rows of the Paris Fashion Week shows; or seen him at one of his many chic nightclubs. Graffiti Life is a never-before-seen look at the artist’s many spheres through which he effortlessly moves: street culture, contemporary art, graphic design, photography, fashion, and nightlife. It follows Saraiva’s art/life trajectory, and includes his Instagram-worthy tags on the streets of Paris; countless silk-screened posters; paintings and sculpture; creative collaborations with Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Colette, and more.

About the Author:

André Saraiva is an artist, hotelier, and entrepreneur. Virgil Abloh is an artist, architect, engineer, creative director, and designer. Magda Danysz is a French art curator and art dealer. Glenn O’Brien (1947–2017) was a writer who focused largely on the subjects of art, music, and fashion. Jeffrey Deitch is an American art dealer and curator.

Author Jeffrey Deitch, Contributions by Roger Gastman and Fab 5 Freddy and Greg Tate and Carlo McCormick
ID: 14044
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The most comprehensive book to survey the colorful history of graffiti and street art movements internationally.

Forty years ago, graffiti in New York evolved from elementary mark-making into an important art form. By the end of the 1980s, it had been documented in books and films that were seen around the world, sparking an international graffiti movement.

This original edition, now back in print after several years, considers the rise of New York graffiti and the international scenes it inspired--from Los Angeles to São Paulo to Paris to Tokyo -- as well as earlier and parallel movements: the break dancing and rap music of hip-hop; the graffiti used by Chicano gangs to mark their territory; the skateboarding culture that began in Southern California. Expertly researched, beautifully illustrated, and featuring contributions by many of the most significant curators, writers, and artists involved in the graffiti world, this now classic volume is an in-depth examination of this seminal movement.

- An immersive dive into the world of Banksy

- Included : Banksy's last works in Ukraine

- The royalties from this book will be donated to the association SOS MEDITERRANEE, which helps migrants (one of Banksy's fights)

This book presents the richness, diversity and strength of the work of the most famous street art artist in the world... and yet nobody knows his identity. We are invited to follow the evolution of the artist from England to the United States, France, Israel and the Ukraine, and through more than a hundred emblematic works, all explained. This is the original Catalog Raisonné of the Banksy Museum, in which all these works are reproduced in their urban contexts, allowing the general public to discover them in a realistic way and to grasp their strength, including those that have been stolen or defaced and no longer exist.

About the Author:

Hazis Vardar, owner and producer of theaters (notably The Palace Nightclub in Paris) is the founder of the Banksy museums (in Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Prague, Milan and Dubai). Banksy was born in Bristol, Great Britain, around 1974. He became a key figure in the world of street art in the mid-1990s with his provocative and unique style. Today he is the world's most fashionable street artist.

Banksy

Видавництво: Century

Artistic genius, political activist, painter and decorator, mythic legend or notorious graffiti artist? The work of Banksy is unmistakable, except maybe when it's squatting in the Tate or New York's Metropolitan Museum. Banksy is responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cities throughout the world. Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. If you look hard enough, you'll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals. His identity remains unknown, but his work is prolific. Here's the best of his work in a fully illustrated colour volume - including brand material.

A visual account of the birth of graffiti and street art, showcasing as-yet-unseen works collected by preeminent artist Martin Wong. Referred to by the New York Times as an artist "whose meticulous visionary realism is among the lasting legacies of New York’s East Village art scene of the 1980s," Martin Wong (1946–1999) was firmly entrenched in the NYC street art world of the late ’70s and ’80s. In December of 2006, an unlikely group of nearly 100 street artists from all over the world came together to participate in an art show celebrating Eleven Spring Street, long a premiere destination on the international Street Art map. The New York Times wrote, "One of the best shows of the season flamed past just before Christmas: a weekend-long display of graffiti created by artists from around the world at, and in honor of, 11 Spring Street."

The methodology was mixed media to the max: Wheatpaste, paper, spray paint, house paint, markers, metal objects, found objects the result was chaotic yet undeniably arresting. Marc and Sara Schiller of the Wooster Collective curated the three-day event, calling the show Wooster on Spring. It featured street art superstars like Shepard Fairey and Swoon as well as emergent talents including JR, Prune, and Doze Green.

The result was a potent mix of artists who brought the street inside by re-claiming the walls for themselves, and a tipping point for what has become an international art world phenomenon. The three-day public viewing session was a landmark downtown event that drew crowds in the thousands, with people waiting up to five hours to get inside.

With an Introduction by Shepard Fairey, an Afterword by JR, and an essay from Randy Kennedy of The New York TimesEleven Spring captures an important moment in Street Art's history. All the works that were created for the show were subsequently covered up or destroyed by renovation. Eleven Spring allows these vibrant works to live again, ready for a new generation of admirers to enjoy and celebrate."

"Artists covered the interior walls with their latest, most ambitious efforts, transforming a casual auld-lang-syne get-together into a state-of-the-art statement that ranged from classic tagging to new adventures in papering, printing, varnishing, installation and, in one impressive instance, crayon. There were lines around the block."

Lewis Miller

Видавництво: Monacelli Press

From Lewis Miller, the celebrated floral designer and Flower Bandit himself, an intimate and joyous behind-the-scenes look at his signature Flower Flashes as they introduced bright moments of natural beauty into the city when they were needed most.

Before dawn one morning in October 2016, renowned New York-based floral designer Lewis Miller stealthily arranged hundreds of brightly colored dahlias, carnations, and mums into a psychedelic halo around the John Lennon memorial in Central Park. The spontaneous floral installation was Miller's gift to the city -- an effort to spark joy during a difficult time. Nearly five years and more than ninety Flower Flashes later, these elaborate flower bombs -- bursts of jubilant blooms in trash cans, over bus canopies, on construction sites and traffic medians -- have brought moments of delight and wonder to countless New Yorkers and flower lovers everywhere, and earned Miller a following of dedicated fans and the nickname the Flower Bandit.

After New York City entered lockdown, Miller doubled down, creating Flower Flashes outside hospitals to express gratitude to frontline health workers and throughout the city to raise spirits. This gorgeous and poignant visual diary traces the phenomenon from the first, spontaneous Flower Flash to the even more profound installations of the pandemic through a kaleidoscopic collage of photos documenting the Flower Flashes, behind-the-scenes snapshots, Miller's inspiration material, fan contributions, and more.

About the Author:

Lewis Miller was born and raised in California farm country amid olive, almond, and peach orchards, and developed a respect for nature early on. At eighteen, he moved to Seattle where he studied horticulture and landscape design, and after seven years of successfully pursuing his interests in design, flowers, and event planning, Miller moved to New York, where he worked for one of the city's top floral boutiques. In March of 2002, Miller's vision of a country life in a metropolitan setting inspired him to create Lewis Miller Design. Since striking out on his own, Miller has created stunning floral designs for the Met, the Whitney, Tiffany, Ferragamo, Versace, Viktor Rolf, and Bergdorf Goodman. In 2016, Miller invented the Flower Flash -- a guerilla flower installation -- and has created more than 90 since.

The definitive book on High Line art, the public art program on the High Line, one of the most popular destinations in New York City. High Art surveys the first five years of art on the High Line, the unique elevated park in New York City created through the repurposing of an abandoned railway line. Since 2009, when the High Line was opened to the public, nineteen million visitors have been witness to more than 100 public art projects animating the grounds of this unique "park in the sky." The works include sculpture, installation, billboards, video, performance, and sound works by a range of artists, from established figures such as John Baldessari, El Anatsui, Maurizio Cattelan, Gilbert & George, and Ed Ruscha, to critically acclaimed mid-career artists such as Carol Bove, Sarah Sze, and Mark Grotjahn. The High Line is steadily broadening the audience for contemporary art while pushing the boundaries of traditional public art programs. This beautifully illustrated volume features the High Line’s diverse projects thematically, including full-color images and short texts on the various projects, along with an introduction by curator Cecilia Alemani; an essay on the High Line’s effect on Chelsea, the neighborhood cultural hub where it is located; and a roundtable discussion about public art today.

A new take on the history of art as parodied, reinterpreted and ultimately reinforced by the international phenomenon that is Banksy.

Few would dispute that Banksy is the most famous urban artist in the world today. That he is also one of the most perceptive art historians of our age might come as a surprise to many. Taken together, the myriad memorable works the street artist has created over the course of the past thirty years, since his emergence in the Bristol underground scene in the early 1990s, constitute an audacious commentary on the history of image-making – a captivating critique waiting to be pieced together.

Armed with little more than stencils, spray paint and an anonymizing cloak of after-hours darkness, Banksy has forged an alluring identity for himself as an incorrigible prankster who doesn’t embrace tradition, but shreds it. Consider Banksy and you think of grubby city walls far removed from elite galleries and privileged museums where art is conventionally shown. What actually illuminates Banksy’s audacious murals, impromptu urban sculptures and vandalized paintings, however, is a profound understanding of the story of art. He wields this secret knowledge like a weapon against our senses.

Through the dark satirical lens of Banksy’s mischievous reimagined masterpieces, art history is viewed afresh and brought into unexpected focus. From his droll lampooning of the Lascaux cave paintings to his reinvention of Monet’s enchanting water-lily pond, a reboot of Géricault’s tragic gut-wrenching vision to Vermeer's girl now instilled with street cred, everyone’s genius is grist for his unmerciful mill. Far from being diminished in their significance, however, the works that Banksy ruthlessly parodies are ultimately refurbished by the ordeal. Banksy’s iconoclastic works force us to rethink our affection for, and appreciation of, great works of art that define cultural history.
